Friday Fitness

My journey has been a bit interrupted from MY goals, but God had other plans. 🙂 Right now, fitness is eating healthy, staying on top of all meds and such, working with doctors to get through until surgeries, and resting. (Did you know that rest is a 4-letter word?) Since my goals are a bit off right now, I decided to do a different kind of fitness post.

I have seen several “Things That Just Make Sense” videos on the internet. For me to regain fitness and be as healthy as possible, there are some atypical things in my house. While this is not a video, I was thinking about some things that just make sense in my home that are unique to working toward health and fitness given my disability and chronic illnesses.

  1. I have several therapy bands in various areas throughout the house. They are used for strength and gait training. People often ask what they are. I just have unique decor!
  2. I have a ramp on my house to assist on the weaker days when stairs are not an option. It also is a physical therapy tool in practicing walking. (Walking ramps forward and backward strengthens more muscles.)
  3. I have “steps” (stools at various heights to practice going up and down to strengthen muscles. I walk up and down them multiple times a day working to keep as much muscle as I can for as long as I can.
  4. My kitchen has gadgets to make things easier to cut, chop, etc. This allows me to have healthy food without taxing my hands. My nieces are always looking for things to make my life easier without taking up a bunch of space. (Balance!)
  5. We use “three-drawer” shelves to keep things where I can reach them in the kitchen and bathroom. I am “vertically challenged” as they used to say and don’t climb well. We have to keep things on a lower shelf. It means much of my kitchen shelf-space is unused toward the top, but I can reach all of my stuff!
  6. My linen closet is mainly a medical-supply closet. It works. 🙂
  7. While I have a couple box of facial tissues for people to use, you will see handkerchiefs and reusable paper towels within reach throughout the house. Being allergic to paper and dust mites means using reusable cloths instead of the typical disposable varieties.
  8. Soaps, wipes, and many cleaners are “free and clear” or homemade.
  9. Food in the house is mainly whole food. My nieces state that I just don’t have unhealthy food in my house. For the most part, that is true. There are two reasons for this. One is that I have vast food allergies. The second is that I do not want to have food in the house that will tempt me.

What are some things that you have in your home that help you with health and fitness?

How are your fitness goals coming? What one thing do you want to accomplish this next week?
