Friday Fitness

Let’s talk food today. As we mentioned before, food is a big part of the fitness journey.

Before we go further, remember. We are not here to give medical advice. Please consult your doctors. We are only sharing what has or is working for us. We are here to encourage each other on the journey.

For me personally, I have learned that it is incredibly easy to eat too many calories. A few extra calories here or there quickly add up. Serving sizes are hard to estimate. As much as I don’t like it, measuring food and counting calories is necessary. I am realizing that this will be something I will likely need to do consistently to stay on track. My personal go to app is “MyFitnessPal.” There are many, many others out there. A quick google search will give you many options. Which one do you use if you count calories?

In addition to tracking food, it is important to eat the right kinds of food. There are so many diets out there that we could use. Let me tell you. I have tried a lot of different “diets.” There is the Mediterranean diet, the Atkins diet, anti-inflammatory, autoimmune, keto, whole-foods, and the list goes on and on.

Several of these are solid plans with good nutrition. Yet, the ones that work are the ones that are more life-style changes than diets. Nutrition is important. Yet, sustainability is also important. It has to be something that fits your lifestyle, resources, and tastes.

What do I do right now? Mainly, a whole-foods diet. I try to focus on fiber, fruits and vegetables, and protein. Because I fight chronic inflammation, I work to stick to anti-inflammatory foods. I guess mine is kind of a mix of various meal plans, finding what worked for me.

What has helped me is finding so many things on Pinterest that give meal plans and recipe ideas. It is easy to get stuck in a rut and get bored. These boards are a help!

What have you found that works for you?
