Tuesday Tip: Take a Step Back

Do you get overwhelmed easily when the chores pile up, when they are more than your strength will handle?

I confess that I do.

Something that I am working to do is pretty simple but seems to be helping. Take… a… step… back.

Take a step back and a deep breath. Ask God to help you. Assess the chores and time frame. Prioritize. Start with the most important tasks.

Take a brief break as needed to catch your breath.

Re-assess. Do you need to change your schedule, ask for help? Then, keep going.

If you continuously get overwhelmed, take a bigger step back. Do you need to drop some things from your schedule, even if just temporarily? Look at what areas could be changed.

For me, I recently had to reassess how I was handling household chores as my allergies (food, environmental, chemical, and seasonal) increased. Taking care of those allergies is very time-consuming. While 90+ percent of my food has to be made from scratch, there are a few small things that we can buy pre-made. They are a bit more expensive, but I have found the cost is worth it. It was a “take a step back” to look at the big picture decision.

Breathe. And, take a step back. Lean into our God. He is there to help you!
