Daily Dose of Encouragement: Prayer, Part 2

What is prayer?

Very simply put, prayer is talking to God. That is an oversimplification, prayer explained most simply. There is oh so much more to prayer. We will be looking at who can pray, how to pray, and much more over the coming days. God is not a genie in the sky that simply does what we want or ask. However, He is King of kings and Lord of lords, our Creator and Savior, who does want to hear from us in prayer.

God instructs us in Scripture to pray throughout the Scriptures.

Philippians 4:6 tells us that God wants us to pray about everything with Thanksgiving.

“6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”

Just think about it for a moment. The God of this universe wants us to come to Him with our requests. He cared enough to send His Son as a sacrifice for our sins to restore our relationship with God. A relationship that sin destroyed is restored through Jesus for all who believe on Him and trust Him as Savior. The God who cared that much wants to talk to us. Wow. We can pray with Thanksgiving as we know that God will answer.

Chronic Illness flare? Pray. Overwhelmed? Pray. In pain and weak? Pray. Scared? Lonely? Exhausted? Pray. Anxious? Worried? Pray. You will be surprised at what a difference it makes as we talk to God about everything.

This song on prayer has been a blessing to me through the years.
