“5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.”
The Psalmist knew of lament, disappointment, and discouragement. He knew what it was like to struggle with a lack of inner peace. I like that about the Psalms. They are not sugar-coated to make you think that everything was always okay. They show life, real life.
The Psalmist also points us back to God from which he obtains his hope, praise, and strength. Do you see here in this verse that he praises God in the midst of the battle because God is the health of his countenance. God is his God.
This week, let’s meditate on this verse. Let’s hope in God.
