Faithful Friday

This week, I was reminded that life comes in seasons.

Several friends who struggle with chronic illness and disability are facing next steps in the journey, steps that mean significant life changes. These decisions are hard, so hard. It always makes me think, how will I handle these changes when they come for me?

One thing I know. God is faithful.

It has struck me this week as I’ve watched these struggles and know that they will likely also be a part of my journey, that God is in control. In His faithfulness, He is in control.

Will I willingly let Him be in control?

Somehow, although He is the faithful God of the universe and I so small, I want to take control. Although He has proved His faithfulness over and over, I will doubt or shy away from His plans.

Relax, He seems to say. I am in control. This is not your battle but mine. For my dear friends going through these difficult changes, there can also be a sense of peace and rest. He is in control. He will not leave us. He faithfully will walk that journey with us.

Our God is a faithful God. Through each season, God is a faithful God.

For those going through the change in seasons right now, soak in this song. (Lyrics are included before the video.)

Be Still My Soul The Lord Is On Thy Side

1 Be still, my soul; the Lord is on thy side;
bear patiently the cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
in every change He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul; thy best, thy heav’nly Friend
through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

2 Be still, my soul; thy God doth undertake
to guide the future as He has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
all now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul; the waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below.

3 Be still, my soul; when dearest friends depart,
and all is darkened in the veil of tears,
then shalt thou better know His love, His heart,
who comes to soothe thy sorrow and thy fears.
Be still, my soul; thy Jesus can repay
from His own fullness all He takes away.

4 Be still, my soul; the hour is hast’ning on
when we shall be forever with the Lord,
when disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul; when change and tears are past,
all safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
