What a blessing Psalm 57 has been to me this week. I love how David doesn’t gloss over his hardship. He faces it head on. He admits that he is overwhelmed.
Let’s read Psalm 57:6-8.
“6 They have prepared a net for my steps; my soul is bowed down: they have digged a pit before me, into the midst whereof they are fallen themselves. Selah.”
David realizes that his enemies are preparing traps for him. He is bowed down. But look at the end of the verse. The enemies of David fall into the pit they dug for him. Observe how David responds.
“7 My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.”
David sets his heart on God. He establishes that God will be his focus. Then, he gives God his song and praise.
“8 Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.”
Notice that he does this deliberately. He gets up early to use his instruments to praise God and sing to Him. (If you live with others, you may wish to quietly praise Him early in the morning. Ahem.)
These verses cheer my heart. David was going through trials. Yet, He purposed to focus on God along, to sing, to give praise, and to do this very deliberately.
