Doctor’s appointments. Pain. Fatigue. Medicines. Side Effects. Sleepless night. Therapies. Exercises. Health routines. Boring, bland diets. Monotony. Weariness. Isolation. Loss of Control. Disappointment. Loneliness.
Are you encouraged yet? This is the daily dose of encouragement after all. But, does any of this sound familiar? Is any of this what you are going through right now?
Lions. That is what we are calling them today.
“4 My soul is among lions:”
Pause here. All of that stuff we just mentioned reminds me of lions.
“and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.”
Pause here again. Doesn’t that sound like what we go through sometimes as disabled, chronically ill, isolated people? Others just don’t understand the daily struggle of life. It gets overwhelming. Now, let’s look at verse 5. It pivots here.
“5 Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; let thy glory be above all the earth.”
When I read verse four of Psalm 57, the lions made me think of what we go through today. I mean, the life we live can get tough. Maybe you are there among the lions today. Maybe you feel as if you have been there for some time.
The Psalmist was. He starts out the chapter telling the trouble that he has and also the greatness of God. He is assured that God will help. He tells us that in the first three verses In verse 4, he reminds us of how deep and heavy his trials and burdens are. But look at his response.
He praises God. He praises God. He wants to glorify God.
To be honest, the last few weeks have been pain weeks, struggle for every day weeks, disappointment weeks, weeks of lions, so to speak. I felt it strongly this morning. When I read these verses, I realized that I have a choice.
I choose to praise and worship today. Our God is worthy of that praise even in the midst of the trials. What is buffeting you today? May I encourage you to praise even when that is the last thing you feel like doing? Let’s choose to worship!
