Tuesday Tip: Find Ways That Work for You

Recently, in addition to the physical and occupational therapy that must be done daily, My medical team has added speech and breathing therapy as well as more nebulizer treatments. With working full time and other daily tasks, I simply do not have enough hours or strength each day to get it all done. All of it is helping. All of it takes time. I know that my regimen is small compared to others.

Over the past few weeks, I have been trying various ways of trying to get this all done. So far… we are making progress, but haven’t quite made it yet. However, we press on.

This brings us to the tip for the day. As our conditions become more complex, we must find ways that work for us. A couple things I found were adjusting the nebulizer to be hands free with elastic and… gasp… realizing that I needed to ask for help or get the groceries delivered instead of doing pick up just to save some time. Today is the first day trying the hands-free nebulizer. So far, so good, as I am able to use it while typing the post. (Yay! A win!)

I also realized that I may have to work with the speech therapist to alternate exercises each day as well as alternating my PT/OT. Is it ideal? Probably not. Is it more workable? Yes. It will relieve some of the time stresses.

While you strive to do your best and steward what health you have, find what works for you. Don’t be afraid to try various things and keep trying until you find what is best. As Thomas Edison said, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.
