Tuesday Tip

Do your best.

A recent doctor’s appointment added another set of daily processes to my list, protocols to help me maintain baseline health. This may not seem like a big deal, but the list is becoming quite lengthy with allergy abatement (food prep, loads of laundry, deep cleaning), physical/occupational/speech/breathing/TMJ therapies, protocols for pesky eye and sinus issues, and many more things. I was overwhelmed. It seems that every appointment adds more to this list. I know that many of you can relate.

I began praying about it. Each condition has its own set of protocols to stay healthy. Each of them takes time. (The medical professionals each say, this will take you about 15 minutes a day. Multiple 15 minutes adds up when you have a lot of conditions!) How in the world am I supposed to do all of these? God has promised to give us wisdom. He cares even about these things! I fully admit I was at a loss as to how to manage everything. God wasn’t, though.

I simply do my best. To do my best, I knew I needed a plan.

My first step was to write down all that needed to be done and at what interval (twice a day, once a day, weekly, etc.). After that, I began to look for things that I could do while doing other things. This will save time. Thirdly, I began to look at what absolutely HAS to be done at that interval compared to those things that I could do for a certain length of time each day and work through the exercises (PT, OT) over and over. I may not get every exercise done daily, but it will get me through them every few days and keep me moving forward. (Pun intended.)

There is no way I can do all of these things perfectly. Thankfully, God doesn’t expect perfection from us. He knows we are human. I will do my best with His help to be a good steward of what He has given me.

As I prayed about it and worked through the steps above, some of the overwhelm went away. It is still a lot, but now we have a plan in place. Am I able to work it out perfectly each day? Nope. But, I can do my best!

I know that the medical things can be overwhelming. Some are absolutely necessary for survival. Some need to be done, but are a bit more flexible. Doing our best means we can give ourselves some grace. Our best each day looks different by the day and that is okay.

Just do your best each day! We do it for the Lord. He knows us. What a reassurance and blessing!
