Thankful Thursday

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

It is wonderful to start the new year on a Thankful Thursday!

Psalm 118:24

“24  This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
The Holy Bible: English Standard Version (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2025), Ps 118:24.

As we go into the new year, I was thinking about how we can be thankful even in the hard times. Yesterday, I drove a family member to medical appointments. A four-hour drive turned into closer to five hours given the weather, you know, white knuckle driving, 25 mph on the freeway driving. The test took an hour and a half. That makes for a long day.

But I want to circle back to that statement, “I drove a family member to medical appointments.” I was not strong enough to make that drive last year. This year, I was strong enough! We had a wonderful time of fellowship together. The drive itself was not awesome due to road conditions. Yet, God allowed me strength to do it! I know many would have loved to have strength to be able to serve that way.

It made me realize that I need to be grateful as I start 2026, grateful for the little things, grateful for what God is giving me in each day. I need to remember that others would be thrilled to have my level of activity.

Today, I awoke with the signs that I have shingles again. It has only been 2 months since the last round. I would not have chosen to start 2026 this way. I know others that are starting 2026 in the hospital. Yet, God has a purpose. He is in control. We can still praise Him for today. We can still rejoice. What are you thankful for today?
