Wednesday Walk

Today’s Wednesday Walk may be a bit different.

Yesterday, I had breakfast with some dear new friends. Many of these friends were over 80 and had great wisdom and perspective. (I felt young!)

Full transparency. I almost didn’t go to this breakfast. It wasn’t health related as I had already done the research and required calls to verify the location was “safe” for my allergens and needs. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to go. I did. It was simply hesitancy. After over six years isolated, the “outside” can be overwhelming. The more I became hesitant, the more clear it became to me that I needed to go. I remembered my parents telling me that when we least want to do something, it often indicates we most need to do it and watch God work. And so, I went.

Oh, what a blessing. It turns out, none of us knew each other before attending. Yet, by the end, we were chattering away as if we had been friends for years. As we got to know each other and talked, the older ones near me both said the same thing as we talked over life. “Do it anyway.” When you are least feeling like doing it, do it. When you are scared, do it. One of them mentioned that she also almost didn’t come for similar reasons to mine. We became great friends in that time with each one.

Be brave and do the uncomfortable in God’s strength. You will be blessed and be a blessing. My heart was brimming with joy by the time we had finished. From the time I pulled in and was cheerfully greeted to the time I left, my heart was blessed. Those around me said that I had encouraged them as I came when I could not eat anything that was served. I would have missed out on a lot had I stayed home. What a blessing! Do it anyway! God will be your refuge and strength!

Psalm 46:1-3

1  God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.
2  Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
3  Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
