Daily Dose of Encouragement: Longsuffering With Joyfulness

Colossians 1:9-12

“9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:”

Recently, I have started using the inductive method of Bible study to go through the book of Colossians. It has been amazing. The inductive method of Bible study involves going through the Bible and marking various topics with different colors. I watched several YouTube videos to get an idea of how it was done. I may not be doing it exactly like others, but it has been such a blessing.

In reading this passage, this prayer stood out. Look at how Paul was praying for the people!

He was praying that they would be filled with knowledge of God’s will in wisdom and spiritual understanding, that they would walk worthy, be fruitful, and increase in the knowledge of God. The next portion hit me hard. He prayed that these people would be strengthened with God’s power to patience and long-suffering with joyfulness. Did you catch that… strong in situations requiring patience and long-suffering with joyfulness!

Paul was concerned that they move through the trial with joy, then giving thanks to our Father. It is possible, in His power, to move forward with joy and gratitude even in the hard. It is important to pray for each other as we face the hard that we will face the trials with joy, have joy for the journey.
