Daily Dose of Encouragement: Identity, Part 12

The lessons for the next couple days are vital. At first, they may seem more discouraging than encouraging. However, to see the light of God’s amazing grace and care for us, we must see the darkness of our sin.

Romans chapters 6-8 have some amazing promises. Shirer outlines her favorites in the first part of Week 1, Day 4.

  • Romans 6:23, “23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
  • Romans 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”
  • Romans 8:37-39, “37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Good news. These are amazing promises.

Hard news. To get to these promises to see how amazing God is and who we are in Him, we have to see the truth of who we are without God. This is not popular in today’s culture.

There are four things that Shirer brings out in her books. We will look at the first one today.

  1. “The Danger,” Romans 1:18, “18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;”
We often talk about the love of God, but God also has wrath. God cannot abide when people twist His truth, the truth. Our culture does this often. Think about some of the truths that our culture has twisted. Twisting truth and God’s Word is dangerous. It does bring God’s wrath.

Bear with us as we work through these things. They do lead to showing us our true identity in Christ should we choose to accept God. It will be life-changing.

Note: In the next few weeks, we will be loosely following the study Definedby Priscilla Shirer. Her book goes much more in-depth; I believe it will be encouraging to you. Each week in the study, there are video lessons to watch. I found them on Youtube at this link. The book and study are based on the movie Overcomer which is on Amazon Prime or available at the link.
