There are several acronyms for how to pray:
- ACTS: Adoration, Confession, Thankfulness, Supplication
- HEART: Either Honesty, Endurance, Awe, Repentance, Trust or Honor God, Examine your life, Ask for help, Request for others, Thank God
- PRAY: Praise, Repent, Ask, Yield
- PRAYER: Praise, Repent, Ask, Yield, Express, Renewal
- JOY: Jesus, Others, You
And many more, some of which are listed here. I have found these to be helpful as I strive to improve and increase my prayer life or pray for various things. I have also found that praying Scripture is helpful.
We are not alone in wanting to learn to pray. The disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray. Jesus gave us an example prayer. This prayer is not meant to be a rote prayer, but a mindset as we pray (and live).
“9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”
Do you see that it starts with worship? Let’s start there today. As we go through our day, let’s worship Our Father which art in Heaven and hallow His name. What difference would this make for us as we go into Sunday?
