Exodus 14-15 has really spoken to my heart the past couple weeks.
Yesterday, we saw that the Lord spoke directly with Moses and told him right where to take the children of Israel. The spot had them between a sea and an army. Their fear came out as they expressed how they felt they would have been better off as slaves in Egypt again. Yet, Moses told them to stand still and see the salvation of the LORD.
God spoke to Moses again and told him to have them move forward. I know how I would have reacted.
“Ummm… there is a sea right there.”
God knew. He told Moses to lift up his hands, stretch them out over the sea and the children of Israel would just walk across on dry ground.
Can you just picture Moses then? Yes, he trusted God. I can also see him looking at the sea and wondering how God would do it.
God continued that He would also have His honor on the Egyptians whose hearts he would harden. We know the end of the story, but Moses didn’t. Could he have even imagined all that God would do? No. He could not have, I don’t think.
While Moses didn’t yet know what was happening, God moved.
“19 And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them:
20 And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.
21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
22 And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.”
I don’t know about you, but my heart gets excited when I read this account again! You see, our God is the same God. He is still a God who talks with us, directs us, and helps us!
Are you in a place with a sea ahead and an army behind? Are you in a place where there is nothing you can do on your own?
Leave it to God! Trust and obey Him!
