We have talked about our prayer life being talking to God. Prayer is directly related to our relationship with God.

Popular opinion would say that you can live your life as you please and continue your relationship with God. However, just as our relationships with people are affected by our actions, so is our relationship with God. God take sin seriously.

We saw yesterday how Psalm 139:23-24 talked about having God search our hearts and show us our wicked ways, leading us in His everlasting way. Psalm 66:18 shows the follow up, “¹⁸ If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:” Our hearts must be pure in prayer.

I don’t know about you, but I mess up daily. Does that mean that there is no hope of God hearing us? God gives us good news. 1 John 1:9 says, “⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” We must confess our sins, turning from them. He faithfully forgives through Jesus Christ.
