Tuesday Tip: New Doctor Visits

If you are like me, nervousness creeps in with new doctors. I will either overshare or get tongue-tied when I go. My conditions are complex and fight each other. Something I have done the last few times has helped tremendously and doctors seem to appreciate it.

Make a list.

Yes, that simple. Make a list.

Include any pertinent background, important things you have learned living with your condition, and what you need that appointment. I included any scripts that needed refilling since this was a new doctor, but only because my other doctor in that specialty retired.

Make a copy of this list for both you and the doctor. It made a huge difference this time.

What tips would you give for new doctor visits?

Grat advice – I recently came home from a doctors visit without a script – I knew I needed it when I walked in, but we got talking about other things, and oops… time ran out and I was being hustled out the door… sigh.
