We have been walking through Psalm 30. These next few verses show the cycle of life that resonates with me. We are going to pause as we read through them.
“6 And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.”
Have you ever had a time like that? Everything is great and you feel strong spiritually and physically. You think that nothing can shake you, nothing can move you. You feel as if everything will always be okay.
“7 Lord, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong:”
You praise God for the strength and prosperity. Then, another trial comes along.
“…thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.”
And then, everything falls apart. Where do you turn? God. Our Lord is there.
“8 I cried to thee, O Lord; and unto the Lord I made supplication.”
We cry unto Him. We weep and ask Him for help. We even may start questioning Him and His ways, still calling on HIm.
“9 What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?
10 Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me: Lord, be thou my helper.”
Oh, this part is good. Listen to what God does.
“11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
12 To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.”
Isn’t that life? We have highs and lows. We see God working and feel strong; then we come to a place of suffering. We praise Him and cry out to Him. We wait and then watch as God turns mourning into dancing, sackcloth (grieving) into gladness. Then, we praise Him more and give Him more thanks.
Doesn’t that resonate with our trials and reliance on our God? What an amazing God we have. He is God of the mountains and the valleys!
