Today’s Saturday Scripture is a little longer than most as it comes from a lesson God is teaching me this week.
“11 And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.”
This week, I have been thinking about control and contentment. The year has been a cycle of illness, injury, new diagnoses and treatments, continually. Wash, rinse, repeat. Just as I am healing, my car went down and will be down for awhile. Honestly, it has left me a bit frustrated as I long to get out of the house a bit. (Even during my “healthy” times, any time out of the house has to be carefully planned due to my health conditions and significant and varied allergies. They are limited at best, but it is good to get out.)
- Have you ever been in a time frame where it seems that just as one thing gets better, something else goes wrong, keeping you down or isolated longer?
- Have you ever felt that everything is beyond your control as you have to rely on others for even the basic needs? Your life is completely reliant on other peoples’ schedules. You are unable to do things on your time frame.
- Have you ever felt frustrated with others because they do not seem to understand or seem to have forgotten you?
I must admit that I have been there as well. I realized that sometimes when we get in these places, we forget who our Provider is. We forget Who is really in control. It is easiest to focus our angst or bitterness on the people we can see instead of realizing that our lives are in God’s hands. It is easy to think we need more or different in order to be satisfied when actually our satisfaction should be in Him. If we are feeling the pinch of wants not being met, of fatigue, pain, or isolation, we seek Him and let Him be our satisfaction.
In my current circumstance, I have all that I need. I have food and raiment, a cool house. Groceries were delivered. A friend is picking up my prescriptions. Family let me use a vehicle to get to a doctor’s appointment. My needs are met.
These verses came to mind.
“6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.”
“63 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.
4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.
5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:
6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.
7 Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.
8 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.
9 But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.
10 They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes.
11 But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.”
“5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”
May God be my satisfaction. May God be my contentment.
