Tuesday Tip: Smile and speak up!

Slowly, I am rebuilding strength after my injuries and infections.

Normally, my exercise walk was slow. Right now, it is even slower (and shorter). Yesterday, when I went out walking in my neighborhood with my walker and leg braces and mask (severe allergies), I was encouraged.

Unknown neighbors, a construction crew, and a driver were so encouraging. The neighbor called out encouraging me to keep going. The construction worker mentioned the uneven sidewalks. The driver waited while I slowly crossed the road. These actions cost them nothing. They encouraged me.

The slow walk is helping me regain strength, but is not easy and often tedious. The smiles and encouragement were motivating. Why? Someone else saw me, realized the struggle, and for a moment joined me in that struggle. Oh, they didn’t see the years now that we have been fighting to recover from unexpected health collapse. They saw that one moment in time and lended their cheer.

We never know what others are going through. Smile at strangers. Encourage those who may be struggling. You never know how you will motivate them to take that next step. Your kindness may draw them to Jesus.

So, as you go today, SMILE! Encourage others!
