As I looked at the distance between the equipment and the examining room at physical therapy, I decided that an adaptive devices was safer for the walk. For a long time, I shied away from adaptive devices.
“I don’t need that. I can do it.”
“I am not bad enough for that. I can do it myself.”
My goal was to stay independent. Do you know what? Just the opposite is the case. Without the devices, stumbles and falls are more likely. These devices give additional support and allow more independence, safety, and mobility. My various kitchen aids allow me to be more independent with food preparation. These devices don’t make us “old” or “crippled.” They assist us in living. There should not be any shame with using the adaptive devices.
My tip today is simple – use the adaptive devices as needed.
