Daily Dose of Encouragement: 2 Corinthians 1:8-9

So, recently, I have just been overwhelmed with life, daily survival tasks, and health-related needs. Do you feel overwhelmed? over-troubled? over-lonely? Today it hit me. I have been trying to do it all in my own strength. Have you ever tried to do it all in your strength?

Paul and his companions also felt overwhelmed and over-burdened. They were so afflicted that they despaired even of life.

But… look at what Paul says about God’s reason for allowing this.

2 Corinthians 1:8-9

“8 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:

But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:”

God allowed this great affliction so that they would not do things in their own strength, trusting themselves, but in God’s strength. You know, our great God who even has power over death, that God will give us His strength.

Why would I try to do it in my own feeble strength when I have God’s strength available to me? It was a good reminder this morning and refocused my heart to rely on God’s strength!
