Celebrating Jesus: Messenger of the Covenant

Malachi 3:1, “Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.”

While John the Baptist is the messenger preparing the way, Jesus is the Messenger of the covenant. “Messenger” is the same word for “Angel.”

We could do an entire study on the times when an angel in Scripture is a theophany, or a visible sighting of Jesus Christ.

Jesus was referred to as “Angel of the Lord” or “Captain of the Lord’s Host” in Scripture.

Exodus 3:2, “And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.”

Judges 13:15-18, “15 And Manoah said unto the angel of the Lord, I pray thee, let us detain thee, until we shall have made ready a kid for thee. 16 And the angel of the Lord said unto Manoah, Though thou detain me, I will not eat of thy bread: and if thou wilt offer a burnt offering, thou must offer it unto the Lord. For Manoah knew not that he was an angel of the Lord17 And Manoah said unto the angel of the Lord, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour? 18 And the angel of the Lord said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?”

Joshua 5:14, “14 And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my Lord unto his servant?”

Isn’t it amazing? Jesus was God’s messenger and appeared to many before He came to be born in Bethlehem to die and resurrect for us. What is even more amazing is that Jesus wants relationship with us.

Jesus will come again. Are you ready? If you would like to know more, let us know through the comments or in our Facebook Group.
