Grateful November, Day 29

Gratefulness: What are you thankful for today?

Today, I am thankful for velcro and plastic.

Velcro and plastic? Velcro and plastic help me walk and use my hands. Without the braces made from velcro and plastic, I would be much less independent. Thank you, God for velcro and plastic!

Daring Devotion Thoughts from Day 29: Have you heard of the great missionary to Africa, David Livingstone?

Mark 8:35, “35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save”

David Livingstone lived this. He studied medicine to better serve God and was encouraged by missionary Robert Moffat encouraged him to go to South Africa. He was a poor preacher of his own account, but was determined to take the gospel to Africa. His full passion was to take the gospel of Christ to people. He said, “I am a missionary, heart and soul. God had an only Son, and He was a missionary and physician. I am a poor, poor imitation of Him, or wish to be. In this service I hope to live; in it I wish to die.”

God was his all in all no matter what. Livingstone also said, “I place no value on anything I have or may possess, except in relation to the kingdom of Christ. If anything will advance the interests of the kingdom, it shall be given away or kept, only as by giving or keeping it I shall promote the glory of Him to whom I owe all my hopes in time and eternity.”

David didn’t let his lack of preaching skill stop him. He simply followed God’s leading and served Him. We may be limited in what we can do, but that doesn’t stop God! He can use us right where we are!

This article reminds me to be grateful for the small things in life that make a big difference. Velcro and plastic might seem insignificant, but they can have a huge impact on someone’s independence. It’s inspiring to see how David Livingstone followed his calling and allowed God to use him, regardless of his limitations.
