Our November study is based off of Philippians: Joy in the Midst, by Carrie Gaul.
Read Philippians 1.
Right in the beginning of this chapter, we see that Paul calls himself a servant of Jesus Christ. That was his perspective for life. Specifically, Paul was a bondservant. Deuteronomy 15:12-18 explains what a bondservant is and how long they stay. What happened if they wanted to stay longer? How would they be set apart as lifelong bondservants? Paul also bore the marks of being a bondservant. (Galatians 6:17)
The following Scriptures tell us more about the bondservant:
- 1 Corinthians 3:16-17
- 1 Corinthians 7:21-23
- 2 Timothy 2:3-4
- Matthew 10:24-25
- 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
- Galatians 1:10
As you read those Scriptures, how can you apply them to your life? How can we be good servants of God?
Paul is writing the letter to the saints. The book Joy in the Midst describes saints as “holy, set apart, sanctified, consecrated.” Let’s see what the Bible says about saints:
What can we learn from these verses? How does it change your perspective when remembering that we are saints?
