Go… Teach

Matthew 28:18-20, KJV: “18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

“Go?” Jesus commands us to go. Ummm… did you forget that we are home-bound? isolated? overwhelmed?

I have been contemplating this recently. I always longed to tell other people about Jesus, to go into foreign lands or desperate places to tell others. Yet, I am in my little house day in and day out. How can I go? How can I teach?

Let’s think on this for a minute. God would not command us to do something we can’t do. Now, I will be the verse to admit that our “go” looks different than other people’s “go.”

The verse starts out with Jesus telling them that all power is given unto Him in heaven and earth. This is good news to share! They are to therefore go and teach all nations. You and I know about Jesus today because they obeyed this command.

How can we obey this command?

We do have some contact with the outside world: medical staff, other patients if we go into a medical facility, delivery drivers, or mail carriers to name a few. These can be our “all nations.” They may be from many parts of the world. Will you be willing to reach out to them as God directs?

We also have an amazing way that we can be involved in missions around the world. Pray. Pray for those serving all over the world including your own location. There is much power in prayer.

But, you say, I can’t baptize people. That is very true. While we are not likely able to baptize ourselves, we are able to tell people about Jesus and connect them with churches that can. We are able to pray for ministries who are seeing people come to Christ and be baptized.

Jesus also commands us to teach. Did you realize that you can have a profound influence on others and teach them from where you are at? It can be from your life example or from a more formal setting. The youth of today are hungry for real relationships. Is it possible to work with your church to mentor youth? Pray for the youth in a local church specifically.

Today, how can you “go?” Pray about it. God has a plan and a purpose for where you are at right now.
