Ephesians 5:1-2

We touched on Ephesians 5:1-2 yesterday in our introduction to chapter 5.

KJV: “Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.”

Some things strike me as I read this list:

  • We are to imitate God as a child imitates his father. How do they know how to imitate? By spending time with their father, watching him, and listening to him. Selah.
  • We are to walk in love. It is not about a checklist of things to do. It is change in our deepest being which will translate to this new life.
  • We are to love as Jesus, our Messiah, loved us. It is not about us. It is about Him. (1 Corinthians 13)
  • We are to give ourselves as He gave Himself for us. He gave all. He gave in the day to day as well as in the ultimate sacrifice.
  • His offering was sacrificial and fragrant. Our lives can be an offering and a sweet fragrance to God and those around us! (2 Corinthians 2:15-17)

Simple truths. Imitating Christ as our example. Loving as He loved. Giving as He gave. Simple truths to live by, accomplished through the power He gives us in this new life, through the Holy Spirit living in us.

Tomorrow we continue on this journey through Ephesians. See you then!
