Ephesians 4:20-21

We are learning how to walk in the Lord.

Verses 17-19 show how we used to think or how the Gentiles thought before they met Christ. Paul will show us how to walk in the new way, but the verses today are a bridge or the change-point between old and new.

Paul says, “20 But ye have not so learned Christ; 21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:”

What was happening before was not what Jesus Christ wanted. If we have heard Him, if we have been taught by Him, we know the truth. The truth is in Him.

A few things stand out to me in these verses:

  • Jesus is truth and has told us how we are to live.
  • Have we heard Him? We need to be willing to hear Jesus. To hear Him, we must be spending time with Him in fellowship and in His Word.
  • Have we been taught by Him? Let’s face it, oftentimes we can listen, but will we allow ourselves to be taught by what we hear? Being taught takes the hearing to the next level. You are spending time with Jesus in fellowship and His Word and learning from it, applying it, taking it to heart.

As we draw closer to Him, truly hearing, listening, and learning, we will see the changes in our lives that come from the new life. Tomorrow, we will look at those changes. See you then!
