Monday Meditation

We are looking at Not Consumed Developing a Quiet Time. This devotional shared a very simple and helpful outline (the G-R-O-W-S method) of what your time with God could look like. It is a starting place to assist us in getting started. As we grow in our relationship with God, our time with God may look a bit different.

The song “In the Garden” has been on my heart as we have been looking at our Quiet Times. The time with God is so precious and sweet. He is the only One who goes through our entire lives with us. What a blessed thought.

Our time with God has many purposes in our lives. We have looked at:

  1. fellowship
  2. righteousness
  3. direction
  4. worship
  5. example

Now, we look at how spending time with God makes us a witness to others. We, as those affected by medical issues, have unique opportunities to witness to those who are going through difficult times as well as medical personnel. God tells us in Mark 16:15, “15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), Mk 16:15. While we are unable to go to other lands to spread the gospel, we do have a “mission field” all around us each day.

Psalm 96:3 says, “3 Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples.” The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), Ps 96:3. As we go through the medical journeys, we are able to share His glory and His wonders. We are able to share how He helps us daily.

Sometimes, I don’t feel as if I have the right words. It makes me reach out to God, to draw more closely to Him. It makes my time with Him and studying His Word even more important to know how to share Him with others. (He will help us as we ask Him!)

1 Peter 3:15 says, “15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;” The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), 1 Pe 3:15.

God is with us always. People, even dear loved ones, come and go. Yet, God is always with us. Drawing close to Him helps us in so many ways. Psalm 73:25, “25 Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You.” The New King James Version (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1982), Ps 73:25.

Next week, we will continue to look at practical aspects of the quiet time, how we deal with distractions, how it may change over time as we grow, and what it means to us. See you then!
