Yesterday, we had a game of jeopardy at the end of our study on Romans in my Life Group class. It quickly showed me that I need to study Romans more. 🙂
It made me think about studying Scripture even more and in different ways. It has been awhile since I could memorize Scripture easily. Now, it takes great effort given brain fog and schedules, but yesterday showed me how important it is to have it written on our hearts. (And, no, not just to win the game of Jeopardy.)
Many years ago, I memorized 1 Peter. I decided that I would memorize 2 Peter a few weeks ago. Now, before you are impressed, I am just starting to work on verse 3 while reviewing verses 1-2. What I have found is that slowly memorizing the Scripture is helping me really absorb it. My heart has been blessed as I have read and re-read the Scripture to memorize it, written it out, etc. What a blessing!
An adult Sunday School teacher once told me that the memorizing word for word is not nearly as important as writing the Scripture on your heart. As I mentioned, for me, this is rereading it, writing it, and meditating on it. It is helping me much.
How do you memorize Scripture? What method have you found helps you?
