Yesterday, as I sat in the “cry room” to watch our church Christmas program, I may have grown thoughtful.
You see, I was in the cry room as we were expecting a crowd. Crowds and my immune system do not mix. It is important to be present. I was there, just a bit of an outsider. I was looking at the program through a window, watching everyone else. The fact that I could be there at all was a miracle. One year ago, we would not have dreamed that it would be possible.
Then it hit me. Jesus came as an outsider to all, including outsiders. This fact is all through the Christmas story.
Mary, a young virgin, was chosen to be His mother; Joseph, a carpenter, His father. Shepherds were chosen for the big announcement. Simeon and Anna were chosen in the temple to see Him when the family came as required after His birth. The examples go on and on through His life and ministry.
Most of all, Jesus came for sinners. He came for those who are less than perfect, those who don’t have it all together.
“30 But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners? 31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. 32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
Jesus came for you, for me.
