Daily Dose of Encouragement: Choose Gratitude

Tomorrow is November. Yes, it is true. It is hard to believe that November is upon us.

We are preparing our hearts to offer up daily praise in November. Sometimes, that is tough. Choosing gratitude in the midst of trial is not our natural human tendency. It will change your life, though! (Side note: I strongly recommend the book Choosing Gratitude by Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth.)

A great example of praising in the midst is found in Acts 16:25. Paul and Silas were simply living their lives, meeting with saints and on their way to prayer when God brought a woman in need of healing across their path. They healed her but angered those making money off of her. Their actions resulted in being beaten and thrown into prison. What did they do?

Acts 16:25

“25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.”

The Holy Bible: King James Version, Electronic Edition of the 1900 Authorized Version. (Bellingham, WA: Logos Research Systems, Inc., 2009), Ac 16:25.

God then did an amazing thing after they sang and praised.

Look at verse 26. “26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.”

Now, it may not be that we see miracles like that as we sing and praise in difficulty, but praise does remove shackles from our heart. Let’s choose to praise Him today!
