“Developing intimacy with the Lord requires a conscious, deliberate choice. It’s a choice to put Him first, above anything and everything else in our busy lives.”
—Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth
A dear lady I met in my preteens showed was an example of intimacy with the Lord despite intense disability and pain. Her arthritis was to the point of deforming her hands and making every task challenging. Yet, she did not use that as an excuse to not have time for God’s Word. She loved Jesus and depended on Him for all.
My dear Grandma spent an hour with God unfailingly every morning. She was not to be interrupted during this time. It was her time with God. Her favorite song was “In the Garden.”
These two dear ladies are still examples to me of how to navigate this life. These ladies knew how to put God first and honor Him, getting to know Him better daily. Their countenance simply shone with love for God. Their lives exuded peace in the midst of trial. Their choice to prioritize time with God changed their lives.
I must admit that it is easy to become lethargic in the life of isolation and mundane, repeated tasks to balance health. It is easy to be distracted by technology instead of seizing every moment for the Lord. As God has been working in my heart on this, I have been amazed at the difference it makes when I prioritize Him. He is showing me ways to spend more time with Him than I could have imagined and to make my “survival tasks” more efficient. It is a choice. Even in the midst of struggle, we can choose Him and time with Him!
