This past Sunday I had a unique experience in a Bible study. I am new to this study and truly knew only one person in the group. As soon as I walked in, I felt at home. I felt as if I were amongst friends, even family, immediately. As they shared prayer needs and studied God’s Word, I knew why.
Each person in the room had been through very deep waters. Yet, they had come through by God’s grace. They had come through stronger. Some were still in the midst, but were leaning hard on our God. These people were not dwelling on the problems, but simply trusting God as they walked through them. They were lifting each other up. They radiated peace and joy.
Tim Keller in his book Walking With God Through Pain and Suffering.
“While other worldviews lead us to sit in the midst of life’s joys, foreseeing the coming sorrows, Christianity empowers its people to sit in the midst of this world’s sorrows, tasting the coming joy.” (p. 31)
May my walk be through the sorrow, tasting the coming joy! May I embrace others who have been through the trials and make them feel at home.
