Balancing complicated, changing health issues can be challenging. Someone mentioned the other day that they weren’t sure how I manage the day to day of my journey. It made me stop and think.
The conditions came on slowly. The stroke came early in life which means that disability is almost all I remember. Then came the jenga pile of chronic conditions and allergic reactions. Then, more allergic reactions to common products.
Yes, managing all of the conditions piled on top of each other is a challenge. Now, the question is not whether or not you like a food or product (think like any product) or whether or not you want to go out of the house, but is whether or not you are allergic to the item or whether or not the chronic illnesses will all cooperate with the trip. We start there. Then, we see what choices we have. My health drives my entire schedule throughout each day.
Can you relate? Do you feel trapped by your reality? Does it feel overwhelming?
I pondered this. Yes, it is overwhelming. Yet, if all of it had come at once, it would have been too much. God knows what He is doing. It reminds me of the Israelites. In Exodus 13, as they were leaving Egypt, God didn’t take them on the most direct route.
“17 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt:
18 But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up harnessed out of the land of Egypt.”
God took them the long way because of their enemies the Philistines. God knew that their trust in Him was not yet at a place where they could handle the trip through enemy territory. Later, the Israelites conquered the Philistines. (1 Samuel 7:13) God knew that He could conquer the Philistines and protect the Israelites from the beginning, but the Israelites did not realize it yet. God knows us just as a father knows his children.
“13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him.
14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.”
God knows. Trust Him with all you are going through!
