This week, God allowed me to volunteer at our local mission. Why is that a big deal? I am so glad that you asked.
You see, I never thought I would be able to do that again although my family has been involved there for 55 years. My brother works there and knows my limitations. A need arose that he knew that I could fill. My heart rejoiced.
It hit me. God was using someone who tires easily, can’t walk far, looks a bit odd with several leg braces/supports, uses a scooter, wears a mask and gloves to protect a mixed up immune system. I mean, it looks as if I’m held together with duct tape and moving by the use of wd-40. Quite frankly, I look a mess. Yet, God had a place for me to serve that day. There was a need that He had for me to fill. God created me. He knows my limitations and still had a place for me to serve, a purpose. God uses broken things!
It made me think of Gideon in Judges 6. He saw himself as others saw him, weak and the “least” in his father’s house. Yet, God called him valiant because He saw Gideon as He made him to be.
“12 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him, and said unto him, The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.
13 And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt? but now the Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.
14 And the Lord looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?
15 And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.
16 And the Lord said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.”
Gideon asked for a sign, but obeyed. God used him! God uses broken things, things that others may not see as important. He uses broken things!
