Daily Dose of Encouragement: Prayer, Part 26

Matthew 6:9-13

“9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”

As Jesus teaches us to pray, He teaches us to want God’s kingdom, God’s will. He later showed us the ultimate example of this in the garden before He went to Calvary when He says, “Not my will, but thine, be done.”

That is such a hard thing to say when your world is falling apart and going a direction you would prefer it didn’t. And yet, Jesus teaches us to pray that way. We should want Him to do whatever most glorifies Him in our lives. When we are battling days of isolation, times in the hospital, and repeated sickness, it is hard to say “Whatever you want, Lord.” But, it is good!

Not my will, Lord, not my will.
