“6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
Paul encourages us to pray and let our requests be made known unto God. He gives peace, wonderful, amazing peace. He says that God will keep our hearts and mind in Christ Jesus.
I don’t know about you, but one of the hardest things of living the life of isolation is having way too much time to think. It also lends itself to over-thinking everything. (Or, is that just me?) Verse 8 above is such a comfort and help in these times. When my mind starts to hyper-focus on the issues and hard, this verse reminds me where to point my thinking:
- truth
- honesty
- just
- purity
- loveliness
- things of good report
- virtue
- praise
It begins with our prayer. It continues with our focus on the the good. As we purposely focus on these things, God can change our entire outlook. Anxious thoughts tend to flee. (Please know that I understand there are times when there are physical causes of anxiety and that sometimes medications are needed. These verses and changes of thoughts can help even then, help you to make the best of the challenges.) In its place, God gives peace, sweet peace. Our souls can be still.
