Daily Dose of Encouragement: Luke 11

Have you ever wondered how to pray? In Luke 11: 1-4, Jesus teaches the disciples to pray by giving them an example prayer. We also can learn from this prayer!

11 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

Give us day by day our daily bread.

And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.”

This prayer is often called the Lord’s prayer, but is an example prayer for His disciples (and us) to pray.

What can we learn from this prayer?

  • What does Jesus call God? What does He have us asking God for?
  • What do we have to do to have forgiveness? How do we respond to His forgiveness?
  • What keeps us from temptation? Is it our own strength?
  • Who delivers us from evil?

Jesus then goes on to explain more about praying in parables to assist understanding.

What a privilege it is to have the gift of prayer? Just think! We are able to talk to the God of the universe!

Lord, teach us to pray!
