Have you played the “if only” game?
- If only I had more strength today…
- If only I didn’t have so many appointments this week…
- If only I had a bit more money for medical bills…
- If only I didn’t have to do a, b, c every day to maintain the minimum of strength…
When I start to play this game (more often than I care to admit), it shows me what my heart is set on. But, God tells us to set our hearts on things above. Oh, we live here on this earth, but we set our affections above.
“3 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.”
What does this mean on our journey of disability or chronic illness or isolation?
It means putting God’s will and glory above our circumstances or desires. It means to live each day knowing that God is in control and His way is best. It means looking to Him through all of it.
This is something to work towards in God’s strength.
