Tuesday Tip: Take Your Burden to the Lord and Leave It There

As someone who is chronically ill, disabled, and isolated, burdens and waiting come with the territory. It is so easy to want to take control of our burdens, to try to solve them when God wants to take care of them. Burdens such as the following:

  • Financial burdens.
  • Waiting on test results.
  • Chronic pain.
  • Recurrent hospitalizations.
  • Dependence on others.
  • Situations beyond our control.
  • What else would you add?

This past week, I received a call from a new specialist’s office that indicated it was urgent that I come back in for test results. They were able to move people around and get me in to the office in a month. Now, any of you who have walked this road know where your mind goes. On the one hand, they are not asking me to come in immediately. That is good. On the other hand, they say it is urgent and they had to make time for me to get in to the office four weeks later. EEK. Then, I remembered. God is in control. Leave the problem with Him. He is not worried right now or wondering what will happen. Good or bad, He is in control. Leave the burden with God!

Are you like me who likes to take whatever the burden is to God and then take it back? I seem to want to worry over it and keep trying to work it out on my own. However, God can handle it. We can take our burden to the Lord and leave it with Him.

My advice to you (and to me – repeatedly) is to take your burden to the Lord and leave it there.

It means a lot to hear Bradley Walker sing this song as he himself knows the weight of disability and chronic illness. You can read his story here.
