“22 By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones.”
Joseph was a man of God who endured much and yet served God through it all. In the end of his life, he had brought his family to Egypt during the famine. They were guests in the land at that time as Joseph had saved lives in Egypt with his God-given wisdom. Before he died, Joseph tells his family that they will carry his bones with them out of Egypt.
This made me think. Joseph and the children of Israel were not slaves at that time. Joseph was revered by the ruler. Yet, in time, Joseph was forgotten. The king became afraid of this family and made them slaves.
Side note in this: How did they conquer the people? How did they enslave them? Exodus 1:12 is interesting. It shows how the more the Israelites suffered, the more they multiplied and grew. Hmmm… do we allow our suffering to help us grow?
Joseph could not have known that they would be enslaved, but he did know that eventually they would leave Egypt. By faith he told his family that they would leave, not knowing the circumstances or timing.
Despite all he went through, Joseph continued to trust his God. He put his faith in God and knew that what God said was true.
Oh that we would trust Him to that extent!
