Daily Dose of Encouragement: Hebrews 11:20-21

Yesterday, we saw Isaac’s faith as he blessed his sons.

We need to review that verse as we move forward to the next one.

Hebrews 11:20-21

“20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.

21 By faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff.”

At first reading, this seems pretty straight forward. These men both had faith. They both blessed their descendants. But, something struck me. Remember for a moment the story in Genesis. Isaac and Jacob had a dysfunctional relationship. God changed things.

Isaac blessed Jacob by faith. Jacob blessed the sons of Joseph by faith. Then, he worshipped God. Even though Isaac and Jacob didn’t have the best relationship. God redeemed the family. The faith of Isaac was passed down to Jacob, then Joseph, and then Joseph’s sons despite the struggles the family went through. God came in. He changed things.

I don’t know what your background is or what you have come through. God can change your life and your family. God can use faithful, imperfect people. Faith can be passed down through seemingly impossible circumstances.

You see. Jesus changes things. God changes things! Wow!
