“13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.
15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.”
We continue to meditate on and dig into these four verses. Yesterday, we saw that these faithful people believed when they didn’t see the promise fulfilled. They still believed. These people are our examples in faith.
Today, let’s look at verse 14: “14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.”
These faithful people didn’t let things distract them. They sought a country not of this world. They sought God’s country, God’s kingdom. They were not distracted by doubt or by life.
In this time in which we live, it is so easy to get distracted. I know that I find myself easily distracted. There is entertainment everywhere. There is so much coming at us. I think it is even more important in this time to seek God and His kingdom.
Let us purpose this week to faithfully, diligently, and passionately set aside distraction and seek God and His country.
