“7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.”
Noah was living in a wicked, wicked time. God looked around and saw the wickedness. He wanted to destroy the earth.
“5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.
7 And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.”
Wow. It was bad. Yet, one person stood out to God, and he found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
Noah found grace in God’s eyes! What did God do? He warned Noah of what was to come that no one could see. God warned Noah. Noah must have walked with God as he listened when God spoke. He not only listened, but was moved with fear and obeyed. People ridiculed him, yet he still obeyed and believed God. (Can you imagine how strange people thought he was building a boat in preparation for the flood?) He prepared the ark which saved he and his household. His actions “condemned the world.” In other words, as it defines on Blue Letter Bible, “by one’s good example to render another’s wickedness the more evident and censurable”. Wow.
Finally, Noah became righteous by his faith. What faith! There are so many lessons in this one little verse. What an example to us of faith when we can’t see what is ahead but know that God can! Will we choose to trust Him and shine for Him in the midst of wickedness even when it is hard?
