“7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:”
We who are disabled or chronically ill face changes in the day to day. We face life-changes frequently and may have to stop working more quickly than we want. We may not be able to do things independently as we would like.
Recently, I have been thinking about this journey. So often, we fight any change or perceived loss of independence or control. What if we looked at these decisions in another way. What if we simply said, “Your will, Lord.” What if we looked at the situation, whatever it may be, in a way that asks God what would most glorify Him?
Now, this doesn’t mean there won’t be pain on the journey, tears, and tough decisions. The Psalms show us that lament is of God. Jesus wept when Lazarus was dead even knowing that He would raise Lazarus from the day. I am just wondering what it would look like if we didn’t make independence or control our main thing? What if through the tears and frustration we said “Yes” to God’s way?
This lead me to the verse above. Paul is facing the end of his life which likely didn’t turn out the way he anticipated. Yet, He says, “7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:”
Wow! It reminds me of a scene in the movie Flywheel by the Kendrick Brothers. The dad in the story is facing tough circumstances as he works to straighten out his life. He states that he just wants to finish well. What if we made that our desire? What if we let Him have full control?
We can’t do this on our own but must have God’s help. Yet, we have a blessed assurance that He is with us and will help us. May our story and song be that we are praising our Savior all the day long.
