Daily Dose of Encouragement: 1 Peter 2:21-25

1 Peter 2:21

“21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:”

Are you suffering today? We are following in the steps of Jesus. Yet, we do not just follow Him by having suffering, for that comes to us, but we follow in the way that Jesus handled the suffering. Look at the next verses:

1 Peter 2:22-25

“22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.”

In the midst of suffering, Jesus was perfect. While we are not perfect, we can follow His example of not sinning through the suffering. He did not speak with deceit. He did not reproach when people reproached Him and treated Him poorly. He didn’t threaten, but committed Himself to God.

Just think about it, Jesus went through the worst suffering, suffering for us, and yet He did not sin in it or speak wrongly. If we choose Him, He changes our lives. He heals us. We were going the wrong way and Jesus changes that for us. He gave us a way to have a relationship with God!

Oh praise His name!

We can follow His example, handling our suffering well and bringing glory to God!
