Over the next few days, you will likely hear bits and pieces from my family trip this past week. Let’s just say it was an amazing weekend together as we celebrated a milestone birthday with my Mom. We were missing a few people as several were unable to get off work, but it is difficult to find a time to get everyone together. As many as possible came to enjoy the time together.
This verse came to mind.
“8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.”
We all have very different personalities and gifts. We don’t always agree on everything. Each family faces amazing struggles and yet, each family gave love sacrificially in their own way. Several of us are not in the strongest health. Those in good health stepped in and helped those who weren’t. Those in poorer health gave in every way that they could. Activities were done in such a way as to include all possible as much as possible. When it wasn’t possible to make accommodations completely, those in poorer health participated the best way they could.
Fervent love abounded. God’s love shown through as we enjoyed time together.
It started me thinking as I saw this love demonstrated this past week. How do we show fervent charity as disabled, isolated, and chronically ill? While we may not be able to get out much, we do have the opportunity to show this fervent love.
I think it means having fervent love for those around us, especially those closest to us. It is hard to lose control over even the most basic tasks. No two people do things the same way or on the same schedule. We have to do things according to others’ schedules. It is difficult to be kind and patient when you are in pain, tired, and weak and cannot do for yourself. Show love, not just love, but fervent love. Allow that love to cover all the annoyances that come with having others be our hands and feet. What an opportunity to love one another, fervently.
