Daily Dose of Encouragement: Galatians 6:2-5

Today, we are going to take a very “birds-eye view” in looking at a passage that goes along with our “Tuesday Tip” post today. There is much richness in this passage, but we are going to take just a couple minutes to look at it. It honestly used to confuse me.

Galatians 6:2-5

“2 Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.

But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.

For every man shall bear his own burden.”

Why was I confused? At the beginning, it says to bear one another’s burdens. However, then a few verses later, it says to bear your own burden.

Then, it hit me. It all comes down to fulfilling the law of Christ. It is about humbling ourselves and putting others first. It is about having the mind of Christ talked about in Philippians 2:1-5. Whatever we do is done with others in mind.

You see, we help bear each other’s burdens, not thinking too highly of ourselves, and also taking care of what we need to do ourselves. Our brothers and sisters in Christ do the same. We all work together to think of each other as Jesus does. We have His mind and heart, His love for each other.

There are so many applications of this in our lives as disabled individuals. We have so much to give and so many ways we can help bear burdens. At the same time, we do what we can to live our lives independently. The foundation of all of it is living Christ and having His mindset.
